Gwar

You’ve probably heard a few things about live GWAR concerts—like to expect guys in rubber monster suits performing simulated beheadings that cause fake blood to spurt on the first few rows of the crowd. There’s also a curious element of political satire that has long informed the comedy/metal band’s act—they’ve targeted elected officials, dating back to Ronald Reagan in their mid-1980s origins, and carved up foam effigies of Barack Obama, John McCain and Hillary Clinton in their unique way of parodying the 2008 presidential election. The message may have been dulled slightly by the fact that GWAR did it in concert as recently as summer 2009, but they still rock a whole lot harder than Mark Russell.
