Global Arts Festival

This year's Global Arts Festival takes on the brilliant and complex Dmitri Shostakovich, a Russian pianist and composer who left a heavy stamp on 20th century music. His works include pieces for piano and string, plus entire operas and symphonies—and attendees of the 10-day Festival can enjoy his legacy through an extensive schedule of discussions, lectures, film, music recitals, and even dance. Today's events include a special performance by Russian pianist Alexander Toradze and the Pacific Symphony, a discussion with musicologist Solomon Volkov and Pacific Symphony’s artistic director Joseph Horowitz about the meaning behind Shostakovich’s music and his belief that an artist is a moral spokesperson, plus much more. You can't do it all if you wait until the last day.
