Brazilian visual artist Walter Goldfarb laces his work with some seriously heavy symbolism. Influenced by his father's experience as a concentration camp survivor, he douses his canvases in bleach and sometimes cures them under halogen lights, stating this process creates “the very skin tone upon which the holocaust was inscribed.” Intricate knot-work on his art suggests suffering so intense that words can't accurately describe. But through the painful backstory of his work, Goldfarb creates pieces that are elegant, stark, and exceptionally pleasing to the eye.
