Fiddler on the Roof
Steeped in song, dance, and tradition, Fiddler on the Roof, the 1964 musical standard revives itself once again for a cross-country tour, stopping by the Cerritos Center to conclude the theater's 2012-2013 Broadway Series. The Tony-winning play, set in 1905 Russia, follows a poor milkman, Tevye, as he grapples with changing times and ideals (arranged marriages? Yuck.), and wrestles with whether to stick to time-tested rituals or embrace modern ethics and let his daughters choose their own husbands. As Tevye says, without traditions, life would be "as shaky as a fiddler on the roof"—though that stance seems to drive his children farther and farther away. Don't miss this theater classic performing two nights only.
