Festival of Women Authors

Thirty-two years ago the founders of Literary Women, Harriet Williams and Virginia Laddey, started the Festival of Women Authors in response to the insultingly small number of female writers featured on Long Beach's Wilson High School's reading list. Since then, the festival stayed committed to providing a forum for accomplished writers in journalism, fiction, nonfiction and poetry, as well as launching the next generation of female authors through scholarships awarded to new literary stars. This year’s event brings literary giants together under one roof—journalists Susan Orlean, Denise Kiernan and Karen Connelly make appearances alongside novelists Amanda Coplin, Kristiana Kahakauwila and Madeline Miller for a day of readings and discussions for fans of brilliant storytelling.
