Festival of Whales

Celebrating 43 years of whale watching off the picturesque coasts of Dana Point, the city hosts their annual Festival of Whales this weekend and next—and we celebrate that our own environmental ruination hasn't forced Grey Whales onto any endangered species lists yet. There's quite an abundance of activities happening throughout the festival's four days, but we're heading over this afternoon for marine-themed entertainment like sailing and paddle lessons, an art show and sale, sand-sculpting competition, the rubber ducky derby, marine mammal lectures, live jazz music and the “Whale of a BBQ” lunch—not “whale BBQ,” mind you, we're pretty sure that's illegal.

Saturdays, Sundays, 8 a.m. Starts: March 1. Continues through March 9, 2014
