In 1992, a film about an underdog hockey team was released, and the sporting world was never the same. It was such a hit that the Walt Disney Co. decided it would be a good idea to create an actual hockey team fashioned after the movie—and the Mighty Ducks were hatched. Never before, or since, has a professional sports team been named after a film. For this reason, the Ducks never really garnered the respect they deserved—that is, until Disney wised up and sold the team; the new owners dropped the cheesy “Mighty” from their name and changed the colors. Shortly thereafter, the team won the Stanley Cup! Coincidence? We think not. So if you want to catch a glimpse of a Flying V, come to the Honda Center and remember how fun it is to quack for the Ducks.
