Dr. No

Remember when action films were good? With all the modern techno-babble and razor-thin plotlines designed to keep ADD-addled audience members watching, it’s easy to forget there was a time when action movies actually made sense. Exhibit A: Dr. No. The first James Bond movie, Dr. No forever changed the face of action. Witness the birth of an icon as, in the opening credits, a silhouetted Bond turns and fires at the camera. And with Sean “Everyone’s Favorite James Bond” Connery playing the role, it’s not difficult to see why this is arguably the best of the 23-film franchise (that’s right, 23!). With its cool gadgets, underground lairs and bodacious Bond babes, Dr. No reminds us that it’s hard to improve the action formula because they got it right the first time.
