Doheny Surf Festival

The recession took a heavy toll on parks here in the Golden State. Since 2008, California’s 280 state parks have faced multiple closure proposals, threats to eliminate staff and resources, and a barrage of other challenges. The Doheny Surf Festival at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point aims to keep California’s magnificent state parks open and available now and into the future by raising funds to support these valuable community landmarks. Featuring live music, surf demonstrations, vendors selling wares, environmental education, surf-related exhibitions and a beer garden (arguably the most important aspect), the two-day Surf Festival is fun for the whole family and all proceeds benefit California’s state parks. And because the recession didn’t just affect parks, it also affected our pocketbooks—admission to the fest is free.
