What if existence was like a comic strip? The boring parts would be white space, every other moment would be a punch line, and the heaviest problems in life would be trying to kick a football held by a mischievous girl. This play, Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, wants you to imagine beloved childhood characters older—and understand that even for cartoons, growing older is tough. The main character’s dog (copyright issues forces us to infer who that is) dies, and in the process, he poses existential questions to himself. And what we learn is that life for this group of friends is filled with problems of sexual identity, drug addiction, body image, and suicide. Go see a play with a unique twist on the characters we all love and a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
