Cold Cave

Cold Cave is ex-hardcore musician Wes Eisold, who started writing Manchester ’79-style synth pop by himself in a giant old house full of taxidermied grizzly heads and photos of genitals pirated off Craigslist. You’ll find some of that in his music, too—animal, man and death in uneasy relation on songs such as “The Laurels of Erotomania” and “Double Lives In Single Beds,” which trade on a sort of dissipated Ballard/Bowie/Bryan Ferry sexuality in which the lighting is either harsh or dim and the chance for connection comes with an equivalent risk of electrocution. If not love, there’s at least longing in these songs—like Billy Bragg once asked, is it wrong to wish on space hardware?
