Che-ades of Gray

Few historical figures are as divisive as Che Guevara. Hailed by some as a leftist revolutionary hero, Guevara has inadvertantly had his iconic face plastered on everything from hipster t-shirts to ashtrays—pretty bizarre for a Marxist. Others contend that he was a destructive anti-American, anti-Capitalist villain. Today, Gregorio Luke, prior director of the Long Beach Museum of Latin American Art, will be elucidating the man’s life and politics for those who want to know more about the face on their Rage Against the Machine t-shirt. As our economic system suffers our current woes, it couldn’t hurt to hear about a man who believed in an alternative . . . even one as seemingly unworkable as Marxism.
