Chasing Ice

It all started in the Arctic with 25 time-lapse cameras shooting every hour of daylight for three years, and what it revealed was a frightening change in the landscape: the drastic disappearance of ice. The man behind the project, National Geographic photographer James Balog, made it his mission to present this direct evidence of climate change to the rest of the world in his documentary Chasing Ice. Balog captures stunning, haunting visuals of icebergs rapidly disappearing before our eyes, the struggles with using technology in such harsh conditions, and even life-threatening moments to get the perfect shot. So far, Chasing Ice has earned 23 awards from film festivals around the world, including Sundance and South By Southwest—and is currently up for an Academy Award for Best Original Song by J. Ralph, performed by Scarlett Johansson and Joshua Bell.
