Cats

While it’s easy to poke fun at this record-setting musical (an 18-year-run in the U.S.), it is based on T.S. Eliot’s witty poems, and it did make a huge star out of Betty Buckley, and besides the fact that cats totally rule, back in the early ’80s every schoolgirl who aspired to be on Star Search sang “Memory” for her audition piece, thus branding it a pop hit for eternity. Retro remembrances aside, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s fanciful fest of frolicky felines is still a crowd-pleaser, and no one puts on better revivals than Musical Theatre West, so grab your favorite kitten or hepcat and have a purrrfectly Jellicle ball.

Saturdays, Sundays, 2 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Feb. 12. Continues through Feb. 28, 2011
