Casablanca: Film & Discussion

Unexpectedly running into your ex is difficult enough. Combine that experience with a nightclub, a tear-jerking song and an attempt to flee for your life with the man you left your ex for, and you’ve got real troubles. Casablanca, the 1942 silver-screen masterpiece tells the tale of such an occasion in the African city during the early days of World War II—the kind of spot where a jilted ex would least expect to see the one that got away. As Humphrey Bogart says, “Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine.” Will it be the beginning of a beautiful friendship? Following the screening is a discussion with Michael Berlin, Ph.D., film expert and screenwriter.
