Beethoven, As I Knew Him

Imagine you’re back in your angsty pre-teen years—but fret not, for you’re close pals with a famous musician, on par with Paul McCartney. Mind you, your friend went completely deaf a long time ago, is likely bipolar, and according to word on the playground, may have become ill from a few rides around the block, if you know what we mean. It’s the mid-1820s, and this is the story of Beethoven, As I Knew Him, the biographical one-man play about the famed composer created by and starring Hershey Felder. The show is based on the book of the same name by Gerhard Von Breuning, who was 12 years old when he became close friends with Beethoven—just two years before the musician’s death in 1827.
