After drummer Pat Pengelly left amiably for law school in 2009, Canadian band Bedouin Soundclash found themselves becalmed for a moment. But just for a moment. They launched their own label, Pirates Blend, and singer Jay Malinowski released a solo album, and after a year and a half, they were back at full power. Last years Light the Horizon (produced by DJ/producer King Britt) punctuated their roots-style sound with genre experiments reminiscent in spirit (if not exactly in sound) of the Clashs expansive Sandinista. What could have been a disaster has resulted in their strongest album to date, said Canadian CMJ analog ChartAttackambitious, daring and focused despite its fearlessness.
