Bang the Drum

He’s played with Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Tito Puente, Carlos Santana, the Doors—he’s even played at the White House. Conguero Francisco Aguabella made his mark during the ’50s jazz boom and hasn’t slowed down since. His fire and passion on the congas have earned him many recognitions (such as the National Heritage Fellowship award from the National Endowment for the Arts), inspired filmmaker Orestes Matacena to create the documentary Aguabella and earned him an esteemed spot teaching Afro-Cuban drumming at UCLA. Don’t miss this chance to see one of the greatest musicians of the past half-century.
