Collaborative art is so fraught with potential disaster it’s amazing it ever succeeds at all. The battles between the person who originated the idea and those whose egos and opinions later bear influence on it have inspired a lot of great material, from Sullivan’s Travels to The Player to Barton Fink. In Don’t Talk to the Actors, idealistic writer Jerry Przpezniak has his autobiographical stage play optioned for a Broadway production. Naturally, once big money is involved, everyone feels they have a say in the direction of the performance. Cheeseball ’80s television actor Curt Logan takes over creative control and attempts to woo Przpezniak’s fiance. And just when it seems like it couldn’t get any worse, Przpezniak watches in horror as his vision becomes increasingly perverted with the addition of Logan’s trashy ex-co-star to play his beloved mother. Looks like you can’t sell out without selling out.
