Art of Haiti Opening Gala

VIE Water founder Mickelson Civil knows what it’s like to go days without clean water. The film-school graduate grew up in one of the poorest areas of Haiti, where contaminated water wreaked havoc on people’s health on a daily basis. With his nonprofit organization, Civil has dedicated his life to ensuring Haitians have safe drinking water. VIE Water raises money to build sustainable wells, one of which can provide clean water to as many as 500 people. This weekend kicks off a seven-day exhibit at OCCCA titled “Art of Haiti” and will feature a wide range of media from both local and Haitian artists. The opening gala includes a silent auction, live Haitian music and food prepared by chef TiGeorge. One hundred percent of the proceeds go directly toward VIE Water’s efforts to alleviate Haiti’s water crisis.
