What better way to enjoy a nice sunny day than to drop trou and expose one’s rear to a slowly passing train? Absurd? Sure. Fun? Definitely. Like most events in which clothing ends up around ankles, alcohol flows freely at the annual mooning of Amtrak trains—though it’s not a requirement to moon, of course. What started out as a dare 32 years ago has become an Orange County event as hallowed as the swallows returning to Capistrano. While it’s all in good fun, 2008’s event got a little out of hand and the public disrobing was in danger of going the way of the dodo. The city of Laguna Niguel took to Twitter and warned that inappropriate behavior and public drunkenness would not be tolerated. The next year was a bit tamer due to such concerns, but the city’s Twitter account has been silent ever since. Must be back to business as usual.
