A Midsummer Night's Gay Dream

Speculation regarding playwright and poet William Shakespeare’s sexuality isn't new—it's long been rumored that the 16th century wiz-with-a-quill was a closeted bisexual. What is new, however, is the Long Beach Playhouse’s spin on his much-loved comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream. The local talent took the classic play about young love on one wacky night in a magical forest and turned it deliciously queer. In A Midsummer Night's Gay Dream, Shakespeare’s masterpiece is reworked with a gender bending twist: girls fall in love with girls, boys fall in love with boys, and, of course, fairies get naughty. Take your loved ones to this new age spin on an old school classic and fall in love with Shakespeare all over again, regardless of gender.

Fridays-Sundays. Starts: July 27. Continues through Aug. 24, 2013
