It’s understandable if the prospect of A Christmas Carol doesn’t get you excited right away. It’s been done by everyone from the Muppets to an unsettling, computer-animated Jim Carrey, with the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge learning to embrace the holiday spirit parodied and subverted every which way. So why get psyched for South Coast Repertory’s version of the Dickens yarn? Hal Landon Jr., South Coast Rep’s Scrooge for 31 seasons, is obviously impressive, but save your true anticipation for learning more about Landon himself—not only did he play Ted’s father in both Bill N Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill N Ted’s Bogus Journey , but he also was in David Lynch’s surrealist classic Eraserhead , maybe the coolest credit that could possibly appear on a résumé.
