7 Fingers: PSY

Saying that Les 7 Doigts de la Main is a Canadian dance troupe is like saying that Salvador Dali wore a moustache. They are a slow frenzied embrace of the surreal, a Cirque du Soleil for readers of Franz Kafka. “Seven Fingers,” in English, now offers its fourth show after a history of groundbreaking international performances. Its latest, a “mad circus” performance titled, ominously, delightfully, PSY takes us into the psyche and its pathology to the wished-for and the frightening. These super-acrobatic Montreal-based dance interpreters of the id enter our heads, matching their juggling, rope, teeterboard and trapeze to the narrative of a collective unconscious. “In my dreams we fly!,” sang Joni Mitchell. That is, of course, the least of it—you will also fall hard for the Seven Fingers, amazing performers who strive to make us whole.
