Duane contributes a lot of good, limited by his own decision to reject any political involvement he finds impure. (He didn't just lose in 2012; he finished LAST -- though that is largely due to lack of money, not of merit.) It's the person who wrote this, Gustavo, who contributes little by throwing out false equivalencies from the shelter of privilege.
My "side" -- the reform side that's actually fighting corporate giveaways with what power we have -- is not the equivalent of the bloodsuckers who want to siphon Anaheim's General Fund into private pockets for generations. But for Gustavo to admit that, drop the stupid insults ("make it into Selma"?? How about just "keeping it from becoming Mobutu's Zaire"?) and actually WRITE SMART STORIES and TAKE A SIDE other than that of irony and snottiness, would leave him vulnerable to criticism rather than at a safe distance up above the fray. Clearly, what he really dislikes is that we leftists call him on his sorry detached pox-on-both bullshit.
You want things to be better in your Anaheim, cabrón? Then use the resources you stumbled into and LEAD. The people who you crap all over with hipster remove sure aren't perfect, but we're getting our hands dirty, unlike you. BE AN ADMIRABLE JOURNALIST, man. Stop with the vague, comfortable, precious attacks. (You don't want to get into an argument about hypocrisy, believe me.)
(Gustavo's response to this sort of thing will usually be to call me "Bloviator." You can write him and say what you think that the above meets that definition.)
