Young guns Daniel Minaya and Shane Vikus are tearing it up at every turn within OC's EMD club scene. Things really got interesting last May, when the duo—known simply as Minaya & Vikus—was hand-picked by Swedish House Mafia DJ Steve Angelo to win his Size Matters DJ contest, earning the two an opening slot for him at the Palladium. Since then, they've parlayed that buzz into everything from headlining gigs at the Yost Theater to a recent high-ranking debut on Beatport (think iTunes for the EDM world) for their remix of "Desire" by Australian selector Archie. In early September, the track hit No. 4 on the on the Progressive House Top 100 Release chart and No. 42 overall. Employing thick, rumbling bass lines and a melodic, disco feel over a trance skeleton, they have actual personalities behind the decks that eschew the stereotype of trance artists being stoic, laptop-gazing robots. Though their style and looks feel very distinct, they manage to make their relationship work as much as any great odd couple.
