Readers' Choice: Las Brisas

Anaheim's German roots are alive and well at the Phoenix Club, a social watering hole better known for its beer tents and pretzels at Oktoberfest than its Sunday champagne brunch—which is a shame. The Sunday brunch is held in the Loreley Restaurant, a large room that nevertheless manages to not seem cavernous, and the spread in the sun-filled atrium is enormous. While it contains all of the usual brunch foods, including carved-to-order meats and eggs, bacon and toast, those are dwarfed by the German specialities: huge piles of dense bread, real brötchen (hard rolls), homemade hams and charcuterie, sauerbraten and dumplings, and an array of sausages. Don't miss the German pancakes, thin, almost-crepe-like flatbreads wrapped around sweetened, lemon-scented farmer's cheese that are worth the price of admission. The Gemütlichkeit? That's free. $$$
