Downtown Fullerton received an instant upgrade two years ago, when the execrable Rockin' Taco Cantina—and its insufferable dueling piano players—was replaced by the classy Matador Cantina. This upscale Mexican restaurant doesn't pay its rent with the Matador taco; that's the job of the bar and its expansive dinner menu. But if you're there for lunch—and aren't on some crazy carb-free diet—you can't go wrong with this tasty concoction. Two soft tortillas embrace a hard shell filled with a generous heaping of carne asada, carnitas or chicken. But the toppings are what make it really work: cotija cheese, guacamole and the Matador's always-tasty pico de gallo. Add some complimentary chips, and you've got a full meal for less than a Dos Equis. $$$
