Best Flea Market - 2010
The Groves Antique Market
We'll spell out all the reasons this flea market rocks: It's centrally located and easily accessible, you can bring your dog, and admission and parking are free. Set up in the parking lot of Irvine Valley College the first Sunday of every month, this outdoor antique swap meet features the usual selection of kitschy bric-a-brac (costume jewelry, vintage artwork) and home décor (furniture, housewares) in an easily navigable space. This means you never feel like you've missed miles of shopping. Some gems to be found include mod '60s furniture; we spotted a Drexel bench table once selling for $100 (one goes for about $700 online). And there are almost always vintage Zenith radios (on one trip, one from 1948 was selling for $125). Fewer vendors also means less junk, and since it isn't as popular as the Rose Bowl, Pasadena or Long Beach Flea Markets, prices for many items here are also cheaper.
