The San Clemente woman was already dealing with epilepsy, blindness and cerebral palsy, which she has suffered since birth 29 years ago, when she came down with osteoporosis in 2008. Traditional medications did not relieve her pain. Medical marijuana did. However, when Traudt's mother, Shelly White, went to fill a prescription at Beach Cities Collective in Capistrano Beach one day, she discovered the medical-marijuana dispensary was closed thanks to the city of Dana Point's ban on such clinics. Traudt sued in Orange County Superior Court on the grounds the dispensary ban unconstitutionally interferes with her fundamental rights to life and safety under the California Constitution. The trial judge sided with the city, but the case lives on in the appellate court. If Traudt loses the legal battle, White is resigned to the alternative: "I guess I'll have to buy it from the drug dealers."
