Best Viral Video Featuring OC Icon Orange County 2009 - Orly Taitz's MSNBC Breakdown
You have to admit they set her up. Before Orly Taitz was even beamed from Tel Aviv into liberal living rooms across the country, MSNBC anchors David Shuster and Tamron Hall had done their homework. First, a few minutes spent torching the forged Kenyan birth certificate Taitz had just filed in her case to prove Barack Obama is a foreigner. Then a quote from Ann Coulter calling the birthers "cranks," followed by a juicy question to Taitz about whether it's true she rejected a driver from NBC because he had a Muslim-sounding last name. But they didn't need to do any of that. Dr. Taitz, the Laguna Niguel dentist/lawyer/leader of the movement to sue the president out of office, was set to explode from the moment she appeared on MSNBC. This was a few weeks into the birthers' mainstream-media blitz; it was after Taitz had appeared on CNN, been ridiculed by Rachel Maddow and sat in Stephen Colbert's satirical hot seat. In June, Taitz told the Weekly that any media attention was good attention. But from the get-go of the Aug. 3 MSNBC clip, you can see in her mascara-rimmed eyes that Taitz had had it. Rough transcription of the choice quote: "Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, I hear you. . . . All I hear from mainstream media are dumb insults; that's what you're proving—dumb insults. Okay, let me answer; let me—LET ME ANSWER! If you don't let people speak out the truth, the truth will come out. . . . WHO CARES ABOUT ANN COULTER? SHE IS NOT AN ATTORNEY." You might as well put those words on the tombstone for the birther movement; after all, to Taitz's followers, the babble must have sounded like "Give me liberty, or give me death."
