It's always a struggle for young local artists to get noticed—even the most talented, well-connected of bands can have trouble getting people to come to a show. But Costa Mesa garage-y/folk-y rocker Will Crum and manager Geoff Shively figured the best way to get attention was to play for people who didn't even know they were seeing a show. Along with a crack team of friends/co-conspirators, they organized flash-mob concerts at their city's Wendy's and IKEA, surreptitiously setting up shop and playing full blast in front of unaware yet not un-entertained customers. The element of surprise and obvious risk (they were kicked out of IKEA and got the cops called on them) make conventional concerts seem a little too conventional.
