This place is so neighborhoody it doesn't even have a website. Ashley's Bar and Grill's exterior is so nondescript it's easy to drive by and miss it — unless you're a local. But this homey spot, which serves great bar grub (including yummy veggie burgers) and features local bands weekly, couldn't be what it is if it weren't in Long Beach. The bar's cavernous interior, with its tiny, two-seater booths here, pool table there and cozy central dance floor, makes it the perfect local landing pad for the varied batch of LBCers who call this place home. As a bar, it represents all that's great about Long Beach: ease, tattoos, diversity and funk. And like a lot of Long Beach's gems, it's well-hidden and well-respected by locals who carefully guard the city's secrets with the simple intention of keeping it real.
