Okay, so it's not a real lake. But almost. The big blue body o' water formerly known as the Santiago Reservoir was formed by the Santiago Dam (built by none other than, you guessed, the Irvine Co.) in 1931 and was opened to all for fishing fun 10 years later. The Santiago Creek still feeds the 750-acre lake, which sits in a serene wooded area off Santiago Canyon Road; this flow makes for catches of the huge blue catfish during the summer months. But alas, this is Orange County, and what is Orange County without a dash of man-made madness? The lake is also stocked with rainbow, brown, California, gold, steelhead and brook trout between the fall and late spring. So if you rent a boat any time during the year, you're sure to come home with something.
