Combining the best of American, Mexican and Antarctic sensibilities, Znow's, opened earlier this year, also mixes in quirkiness (Jean-Paul Sartre political posters, a store newspaper) with Americana (ice cream kept in ice-filled barrels, façades of shop fronts and row houses). But ambiance is second to flavor in the Weekly's food guidebook, and Znow's delivers in flurries: perfect mango nieve sprinkled with chili powder, fruit flavors that perfectly mimic their source, and alcohol-derived attempts free of any proof. The light ice cream is made on-site, as God intended all ice cream to spring forth.
