When it comes to high-end, oceanfront, luxury resorts where it's often possible to spot a celebrity, you can't beat Montage in Laguna Beach. But if you don't want to spend about $700 per night, the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa in Anaheim is a superb choice. There are, of course, dozens of hotels in the Disneyland area, but none are more spectacular. Adjacent to Disney's California Adventure, the hotel showcases American Craftsman style throughout the massive property. Usually, hotel patrons can't wait to leave the check-in area to get to their room, but this place offers a captivating, architectural wonder. The grand, high-ceilinged lobby, with its fine wood beams and plush seating areas, is a memorable sight that underscores how much Disney executives want to impress visitors with an undeniable quality you don't see in many Five Star resorts. Sure, the lobby also contains shops with the usual, overpriced tourist products. But you'll feel a tad better spending all those dollars on a snow dome or a stuffed Mickey because the service at this hotel is almost annoyingly upbeat and friendly. When you're done enjoying park rides, head to one of the property's three pool-and-hot-tub areas. You can even rent a private, poolside cabana that includes a flat-screen television and wireless Internet access.
