Other trays flank it, each one holding some mouth-watering, seasonal flavor, but these purple-topped beauties have our heart. Oh, yes. The doughnut itself is more muffin that airy cake, but it's a berry-bedecked treasure that fills us with joy. And the glaze? It's neither too sweet nor too tart, but a just-perfect slather. Chef Brooke Des Prez watches as we gobble her delightful creation, quietly transferring more trays of goodness from the kitchen to the counter. She knows, she says with her smile. She reminds us to get some Stumptown Coffee to wash the doughnut down. "It's good, isn't it?" We can't tell whether she means the coffee or the doughnut, but since both fit the question, we nod, our mouths full, knowing we'll be leaving the dark-paneled shop with a box full of sticky treats.
