Best Place to Get a Haircut to Match Your Flaming-Dice Tattoo (2010)

Hawleywood's Barber Shop

Really, who's to say that just because a barber has face tattoos and discusses the finer points of pinstriping, he can't spend an hour providing the perfect haircut? At Hawleywood's, a man can stroll into the parlor, slump down in one of the vintage chairs (with built-in ashtrays) in a room ringed by vintage car-club plaques, and listen to pedal-steel rock & roll over the speakers while sipping a can of PBR. With slogans on the wall warning that Red Sox and Yankees fans will pay double, this place has the feel of a crusty tattoo parlor. But think fast because you're about to get "manpered." The Hawleywood's experience offers hot towels, straight shaves, and the "high and tight" haircut. A shave will cost you a sawbuck, as will a cut, but it's a small price to pay for the thrill of having a steel blade dragged across your jugular. Sure, you'll have a guy rubbing his hands across your face meticulously looking for errant whiskers, but get over yourself! After scraping your chin, a licensed barber will spend up to an hour cutting and meticulously sculpting your hair using the shop's Layrite pomade, a sticky concoction of the shop's design. Layrite will coat your mane like bulletproof Lucite, but thanks to its unique chemistry, it washes out like water-soluble gel. (A 4-ounce jar costs $14.99.) There is also a host of other items available for the discerning gentleman, including Hawleywood's brand No. 9 aftershave which runs $9.99 for a 4-ounce bottle. Check it out. And don't forget to tip your barber, cheapskate.
