The Art of Leonard Bernstein

Canadian composer/author/actor Hershey Felder continues his “composer sonata” series with this look at the life and work of one of America’s most talented musicians, Leonard Bernstein. Popularly known for writing the music to West Side Story, On the Town, Candide and Wonderful Town, Bernstein was a complex man who often lent his time and money to civil-rights and political causes, including supporting the Black Panther Party. This, in addition to writing film scores and ballets and recording definitive versions of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody In Blue” and “An American In Paris,” made Bernstein a creative giant.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Jan. 6. Continues through Feb. 6, 2011
