Siqueiros Exhibition Walk-thru

“Traditionally, landscape paintings offer views of idyllic vistas, but these landscapes offer scenes of a troubled world,” says Cynthia MacMullin, MOLAA Senior Curator. She’s speaking of the work of David Alfaro Siqueiros, whose paintings make up the Museum’s newest exhibit, “Siqueiros Paisajista/Siqueiros: Landscape Painter.” Heralded as one of Mexico’s most influential artists of the 20th century, Siqueiros expressed his political voice through his art, believing that doing so was a service to his community. Though his strong opinions led to jail time and even exile, Siqueiros’ passions translated beautifully in his murals and paintings, coming alive with brilliant colors and captivating imagery. Of the estimated 150 landscape paintings he created, the exhibit will display half, and this Sunday, the public is invited to walk through the exhibit with the curators.
