Science of Gingerbread

Just as sure as mall parking becomes a thing of fantasy and that one Mariah Carey Christmas song is played a hundred thousand excruciating times, the next month is filled with holiday cookies, candy and cake—and elastic pants—and the traditional gingerbread house makes its grand return. In the Discovery Science Center's annual exhibit “Science of Gingerbread,” kids can visit Santa, check out award-winning gingerbread creations (we like the edible trailer park) and create a cookie car and race it in the Gingerbread Derby. There's also, of course, the holiday cookie decorating lab, where children accessorize baked goods with sprinkles and candy and globs of frosting, most of which gets shoveled into their mouths. Kids hopped up on boatloads of sugar just in time for the ride home—it must be Christmas again.
