Pride and Prejudice

One of the greatest pieces of English literature gets the theater treatment this month as South Coast Repertory brings us a lavish interpretation of Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice. Join the girls of the Bennet family as each one finds her own romantic adventure in an English society saturated with marriage obsession—and swoon as the enlightened Elizabeth, dealing with being an independent woman in early 19th century England, finally falls head over heels for the elusive and dashing Mr. Darcy, who just happens to be filthy stinking rich. Adapted for the stage by Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan, this live production filled with music and dancing runs a good two and a half hours, so if your summer reading was a little more on the fluffy side (like Kardashian wedding coverage), take this opportunity to re-immerse yourself in Austin's most famous story of love, family, pride and prejudice.

Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 9. Continues through Oct. 9, 2011
