Mandy Patinkin

Long before he played the crotchety, heavily-bearded, terrorist-foil Saul Berenson on Showtime’s hit series Homeland, Mandy Patinkin played the incensed, heavily-bearded, fascist-foil Che Guevara in Evita, and the testy, heavily-bearded, Jewish cross-dresser foil Avigdor in Yentl. In only one of these did we actually get to hear him sing (and sing damn impressively—even though his fleshy flashes in Yentl ain’t nothing to sniff at), and if you’ve never heard this titan of song strut his vocalist vocation, well, you must be a goy or a meshugener—or both. Do not let this pile of bupkes continue, my gentiles, and get yourselves to the Cerritos Center where you’re sure to be surrounded by a mass of adoring bubbes, blue bloods and gay boys, because that’s how the Patinkin rolls: sexy, stealthy, and always a mentsh.
