Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo: Swan Lake LAC (After Swan Lake)

Tchaikovsky’s enchanting Swan Lake weaves the fantastic and romantic in a classic love triangle between a tragic woman-turned-swan-queen, a prince, and a malevolent swan-witch. Director-choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot, who wowed audiences with his 2011 take on Cinderella, revisits Tchaikovsky’s vision of love in the battle of good and evil in his dramatic re-incarnation with Swan Lake LAC (After Swan Lake). Prince Siegfried's search for the ideal woman leads him to a crossroads of choosing between the two counterparts: Odette, the pure, untainted White Swan, and Odile, the earthy Black Swan. Instead of following the story line of the classic ballet of 1895 realized by Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa, Maillot's version takes you somewhere vastly different and unexpected in this hauntingly surreal ballet performed by Les Ballets de Monte Carlo. Who says adults can’t enjoy fairy tales?
