'L.A. Confidential'

The year was 1997, and although the nation was swept with Titanic fever, several soon-to-be classic films debuted in theaters. Directed by Curtis Hanson, L.A. Confidential brought to light a story of police corruption, murder and Hollywood scandal, as well as star-making performances from Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce. Kevin Spacey also gave good face, as did Kim Basinger (who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and Best Use of Red Lipstick). Sadly, L.A. Confidential was sunk for Best Picture by the Cameron-directed mega-blockbuster, but it comes back this week to make a special appearance at the Regency South Coast Village’s Classic Film Night.
