Keiko Matsui Celebrates the Holidays

Contemporary jazz musician Keiko Matsui did right by giving her fans at least one album nearly every year since 1987. Though gaining chart-topping success, that kind of full-speed-ahead momentum was bound to slow at some point—slow down, yes, but not stop. The pianist released her most recent record (Moyo) in 2007, and her fans—spoiled by the steady output of smooth, refined piano jazz—have anxiously awaited new material for the past few years. Matsui makes a welcome appearance this week at the House of Blues during her current tour—her only Southern California stop—for a special holiday concert and to promote her long-awaited new album to be released in January (The Road . . .).
