Joan Jett and Cherie Currie

One of the greatest things about the OC Fair is that it brings people together—this year it’ll be over rowdy, estrogen-fueled rock ‘n’ roll. More than thirty years have passed since the Runaways disbanded, and rarely have Joan Jett and Cherie Currie appeared on stage together since. Interest in the ‘70s proto-riot grrrl group is at an all-time high after the release of the film The Runaways, and this gig could be the closest to a full reunion that fans will ever get. Jett and Currie took vastly different paths post-breakup: Jett went on to (relative) fame and fortune with straight-up rock like “Bad Reputation,” while Currie acted in several films and became an experimental (read: chainsaw) artist. She returns to the stage with a new band, including her son on guitar. We’re holding out hope that they will perform at least one Runaways chestnut onstage together.
