Hail to the King

The Melvins have it all: big troll hair, creepy lyrics, riffs that would blow the tubes outta most bands’ amps, and a 25-year history that includes being the dark muse for a pop-culture phenomenon. These godfathers of grunge have been making some of the best metal of the last few years since they hooked up with their sonic progeny—the two-piece tongue-in-cheek hardcore outfit Big Business—to add a bass player, an extra drummer (that’s right—the Melvins you’ll see at the Glass House now have two drummers; you’ll be vibrating for weeks) and some vocal harmonies from hell. They’re still as dense as lead, but now they’re faster, and the beats come at you like a stampede in an unusual time signature.
