No matter the incarnation, Danzig benefits from having its namesake at the forefront, which is more than can said for the current version of the Misfits. Having long replaced thrashing punk with chugging metal, Glenn Danzig has kept his titular quartet intact and his voice all too commanding. He seems intent on legacy these days; after 2007’s career-spanning excavation The Lost Tracks Of Danzig, there was last year’s 20th anniversary revisiting of the band’s classic lineup. Now there’s an illustrated book of lyrics. Whatever the future holds, Danzig’s fans are in it for the long haul, many of them having held on since the glory days of the Misfits and Samhain. This match-up with Pennywise should prove a fitting, fist-pumping sendoff to the decade.
