Corpus Christi

All you have to do is read the blurbage and verbiage describing the Garage Theatre’s upcoming production of Corpus Christi to know it’s interesting. The play speaks about passions being aflame as Jesus, Judas and the apostles spread the messages that love—all love—is right and necessary. Sounds like erotic blasphemy at its sexiest. When the play, written by Terrence McNally, was first produced at the Manhattan Theater Club in 1997, its board of directors was the focus of death threats. Hopefully, times have changed . . . but if the recent production of Jerry Springer: The Opera at the Chance Theater was any indication, the Garage Theatre may have a rough road ahead.

Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: July 29. Continues through Aug. 27, 2011
